The Plan to Boost Productivity and Employment (PIPE 2.0), is the shock plan that the government launched to boost the growth of the country's economic sectors, including tourism, encouraging the construction of new hotels with an exemption broader tax.
This new benefit is basically focused on the tax issue with the tax exemption that applies to hotel establishments, previously for those that began operating before December 31, 2017, now those that start the project will be included before this date.
"Right now a 30-year tax exemption is in force for those who have hotels built until 2017, we modified that rule and now those who start projects until December 2017 will have the same benefits, they don't exactly have to be finished," he told RCN radio. Cecilia Álvarez-Correa, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism.
Likewise, the Minister referred to the fact that there are many international companies interested in investing in large-scale hotel projects in the country, especially in tourist areas of the country that have not yet developed their hotel infrastructure.
"The construction of hotels can generate more than 17,000 direct jobs, that would be the sector's contribution to PIPE 2.0, and also from the ministry we are committed to increasing the tourist and hotel offer in Colombia," Álvarez-Correa concluded.
